MONTAGUE — It’s still more than a year away, but a student leadership convention that will attract more than 900 people to this community could also include guest speaker Justin Trudeau.

“We’re still working on final confirmation, but Mr. Trudeau could be one of our guest speakers,’’ said Sandra Hicken, a teacher from Montague Regional High School, who outlined the pending 2013 event to town council Monday night.

It will mark the second time the 29th annual Canadian Student Leadership Council will be held on P.E.I. The event, from Sept. 17 to 21, will see 700 students from across Canada participate along with 250 support staff.

Hicken said the event will not only be great for students, but have significant impact on the town and region. The event hopes to access the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre for many of the activities.

“We’ll be having almost 1,000 people in the area during the four days and the last day will see the visiting students participating in a volunteer project for the town,’’ said Hicken. “A lot can get done when you have 750 young people, plus Montague students, volunteering to work on a local project.”

Hicken said Liberal MP Trudeau, son of the late prime minister Pierre Trudeau, would be just one of the major speakers invited to the conference that focuses on student leadership.

The registration fees raise about 65 per cent of the costs and Hicken said she is on a mission to seek out community and corporate sponsors to help offset costs.

So what has this "young" Trudeau accomplished in his "young" life. Has he led anyone enough to have experience to tell antone to lead?

I can't imagine why anyone would want to hear a speech by Margaret Trudeau's Drama-Queen son.

he is actually 40, there are many MPs younger than him, including some cabinet ministers, eg Jason Kenney and James Moore, Bob Rea is 65 though so I guess this makes Trudeau young.

Justin is in his 30s-hardly young anymore, no matter how badly the Liberal media wishes him to be.

....my dear Stanley....when you are my age....30 is but a mere puppy. Justin Trudeau will draw the crowds...you will have to beat them off with a stick!

Stanley, you are entitled to your opinion, but I think being in your 30's is very young. Just a number, buddy.
