Islanders face a wide range of weather conditions over the next 24 hours with wind, snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and then rain all in the forecast.

As much as 15 cms of snow is expected to fall before the changeover to freezing rain and rain as a major weather system which developed in Texas earlier this week approaches the region.

Snow is expected to start early this afternoon, then change to ice pellets and freezing rain this evening and finally to rain by midnight.

So far there is no warnings or watches issued for P.E.I. Rain warnings are issues in much of mainland Nova Scotia, including Halifax.

A winter storm warning is in place across much of central and northern New Brunswick.

Forecasts for Prince Edward Island issued by Environment Canada at 5:00 a.m. Friday, January 27 for today and Saturday.

Prince County:

Today..Increasing cloudiness. Snow beginning early this afternoon.  Amount 5 cm. Wind becoming southeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 this  afternoon. High minus 3.

Tonight..Snow changing through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain  after midnight. Snow and ice pellet amount 5 to 10 cm. Rainfall  amount 5 to 10 mm.

Wind southeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 increasing  to 50 gusting to 70 this evening then becoming east 30 overnight.  Temperature rising to plus 3 by morning.

Saturday..A few rain showers changing to a few flurries in the  morning and ending in the afternoon then clearing. Wind northwest  40 km/h gusting to 70 increasing to 60 gusting to 80 in the morning  then diminishing to 30 gusting to 50 in the afternoon.

Temperature  falling to zero in the morning then steady.

Queens County, Kings County:

Today....Becoming cloudy this morning. Snow beginning early this  afternoon. Amount 5 cm. Wind becoming southeast 20 km/h gusting to  40 this afternoon. High minus 3.

Tonight..Snow changing through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain  after midnight. Snow and ice pellet amount 5 to 10 cm. Rainfall  amount 5 to 10 mm. Wind southeast 20 km/h gusting to 40 increasing  to 40 gusting to 60 this evening then diminishing to 20 overnight.  Temperature rising to plus 4 by morning.

Saturday..Rain ending in the morning then cloudy with 60 percent  chance of rain showers. Clearing in the evening. Wind becoming  northwest 40 km/h gusting to 70 in the morning then light late in  the evening. Temperature falling to zero in the morning then steady.
