RCMP has seized counterfeit products from a store in Summerside.
The seizure took place on Friday after officers from the "L" Division Federal Enforcement Section noticed brand name items for sale at the store which are only sold with the company's official store or website.
With the busy holiday shopping season in full swing the Federal Enforcement Section would like to remind the public of the dangers of purchasing counterfeit products.
"Most people are aware of counterfeit brand name clothing, sunglasses and handbags," states an RCMP news release.
"People are not aware that counterfeits can pose a real threat to their health and safety.Counterfeits have been made of the following items: toothpaste, batteries, automobile parts, sports equipment and pharmaceuticals, to name a few."
To distinguish a counterfeit item from the real thing, look for the four Ps:
1. Price -- Does the price seem reasonable? If the price seems too good to be true it probably is.
2. Packaging -- Is the packaging suitable for the product? Are there spelling errors or plastic on an expensive product?
3. Place -- Are you familiar with the place of purchase? Does it make sense that the product is being sold there?
4. Products -- Does the product's quality seem acceptable? Watch for things like poor stitching, incorrectly spelled words, missing information like where it was made.
