FREELAND – A 57 year-old man from Surrey, B.C. was transported to Prince County Hospital in Summerside by ambulance after a school bus driver came upon him in a wrecked vehicle off the Murray Road in Freeland Wednesday morning.
Prince District RCMP spokesman Sergeant Kent MacKay said the bus driver was on his morning run, at around 8:10 a.m., when he noticed skid marks on the road and saw the brush in the ditch was broken apart.
MacKay said the driver parked his bus and went to check. About 20 meters off the road he came upon a 2008 Honda Civic. The car had gone off the road and rolled twice. He found the car’s driver asleep inside.
Police haven’t determined the time of the accident, but believe it occurred overnight.
MacKay said the driver didn’t have a cellphone to call for help so decided to remain in his vehicle.
The driver was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. The rental car he was driving is a write-off, MacKay said. All of the airbags had deployed on impact.
MacKay said it appears the driver over-corrected after losing control of his vehicle. The vehicle skidded across the road and into the ditch.
Police do not anticipate charges.
