The man who escaped from the Provincial Correctional Centre and his guards at the hospital was sentenced to 22 months in jail Friday.
Jeremy Carl Stephens appeared before Judge Nancy Orr for sentencing on 12 charges stemming from his July 21 arrest and subsequent escape from the correctional centre.
Orr sentenced Stephens to six months for possession of stolen property, one month for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, five days for possession of oxycodone, five days for possession of hydromorphone, one month for driving without a licence, one month for breach of probation, one month for driving without a motor vehicle registration and eight months for escape from custody at the Provincial Correctional Centre to be served concurrently.
Stephens was also given consecutive sentences of one month for driving without insurance, eight months for prison breach, four months for escape from custody at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and three months for assault with a weapon.
As part of the sentence, Stephens will be on probation for three years once he is released, is prohibited from owning a firearm for 10 years and will have to provide a DNA sample for the national DNA databank.
Stephens has been in custody since his arrest and was given credit for 44 days served to go towards the possession of stolen property sentence.
