The P.E.I. Humane Society located at 309 Sherwood Rd., Charlottetown, will be closed today due to hot weather conditions.

“The society does not have an air conditioning system to keep the building cool,” explained P.E.I. Humane Society shelter manager Beckie MacLean. “It’s important that when temperatures are this high, we keep the animals comfortable and relaxed. The best way to do this is by minimizing visitors.”

The P.E.I. Humane Society would like to remind everyone that pets should not be left in vehicles or outside in extreme heat and that they have access to fresh, clean water at all times. For more information on the Society’s program and services visit www.peihumanesociety.com.

Having dealt with the center just recently (two new additions to the family), and after seeing how our adoption process was handled, I would certainly help out in any way I could. Wonderful people. Professionally run establishment and caring workers.

There are alot of people who would be interested if there was a fund set up for these animals to be kept cool. We don't have this kind of heat often but they should be kept comfortable when they have no other way of staying cool in those cages. There should be a drive for an air conditioner.

That is terrible, I'm with Helptheanimals, I would definitely make a donation if the humane society were to set up a fund for an air conditioner. Those animals should have some relief in there.

I for one would be very glad to make a small donation to help them buy an air conditioner - that is awful they can't afford one - would the humane society consider setting up a fund for this if enough people wanted to help out?
