Prince Edward Island gas prices are tipping over the $1 mark again.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission has approved a 1.2 cent per litre hike in gas prices effective Aug. 1, The Guardian has learned.

Diesel will also increase, one cent per litre. Propane prices will drop while furnace and stove oil will remain unchanged.

The commission will make the new prices official on Sunday, once those new pump prices are in effect.

Pump prices will now range from 99 cents to $1.01.

The national average for regular price gas is $1.02.

If we replaced every traffic light in PEI with a roundabout, you wouldn't sit still waiting in traffic for a light to change when there's no other traffic coming. That savings in idling alone would allow IRAC to raise prices to $1.80/litre and we'd still save money in operating our cars.

I paid 1.19 a litre for my fill up of regular last week in Delta, BC. Wish we had prices like PEI....

Shocking!!!! The gas stations and garages must be making a fortune this summer with the amount of damage cars are taking with the all the pots holes....and why not burn up all our gas sitting and waiting for the them to repair them....

They shouldn't be allowed to raise the price of gas till all this road work is done , you have to go 20 miles out of youe way to get to where your going these days . That in my opinion should have been taken in to consideration before they raised it . Usually you can plan your trip the shortest way but we don't have that option this year. Just sayin'
