An eight-metre female minke whale that was found dead ashore in Cavendish Beach this week was transported and buried Wednesday.

The beached whale was reported to Parks Canada at about 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Paul Giroux of Parks Canada says a safety officer was posted all day to advice people not to touch the whale that lay dead on the eastern part of this Parks Canada beach in Cavendish.

The whale was loaded on to a flatbed Wednesday and taken to a field in St. Andrews where it was cut up and buried.

Dr. Pierre-Yves Daoust, a wildlife pathologist with the Atlantic Veterinary College, performed an autopsy on the whale.

The fish and wildlife section of the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry is exploring options for dealing with the whale's bones.
