The Crown is appealing former P.E.I. Rocket player Chris Doyle's conditional discharge sentence.

Earlier this month Provincial Court Judge John Douglas granted 20-year-old Doyle a conditional discharge after the former Rocket pleaded guilty to damaging his ex-girlfriend's property.

As part of the conditional discharge Douglas ordered Doyle to keep the peace and be of good behaviour during his six-month probation.

Doyle landed in court after he barged into his ex-girlfriend's apartment after a night of drinking on Sept. 25, 2009.

He was found not guilty in April of assault causing bodily harm because Douglas said the Crown hadn't proved Doyle had intended to hurt the victim, therefore the judge couldn't find him guilty.

Doyle had punched the door to his ex-girlfriend's apartment, which then swung back to hit her roommate and break her nose.

Crown prosecutor John McMillan asked Douglas to impose a suspended sentence and give Doyle 12 months probation instead of a suspended sentence.

Douglas said a conditional discharge would have complicated border crossing and a criminal record would have made Doyle less attractive to a professional hockey team.

The Crown Attorney's Office was not available Friday to comment on the appeal.

THANK-YOU, JOHN MacMILLAN! THANK-YOU JOHN MacMILLAN for Doing Your Job Correctly. Working in THE BEST INTEREST Of THE COMMUNITY. The Best Interest of Islanders, The Best Interest Of Society ! EXACTLY, judge Douglas YOU as well as DOYLE KNEW/KNOW a conditional discharge Would have complicated Border crossing and a criminal record would have made Doyle Less Attractive to a professional hockey team. HE KNEW, DID IT STOP HIM? NO. WHY do You John Douglas suppose that is? Being known as a person who abuses women IS going to make him a whole lot more Less Attractive AND make you as a judge, look even less attractive. John.D. VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS A CRIME. SOooo, WHY did YOU give him The Green Light to do it Again? WHO "Appointed" You lawyer Douglas, To, " Sit On The Bench?" DOYLE KNEW HE, like Barry Bradly BECAUSE Of The People he's 'Connected' To - COULD And WOULD GET AWAY WITH WHATEVER HE WANTED TO DO. I understand Why and How lawyers get "Appointed," To 'Sit On The Bench.' In case They're ever needed by The People Who Put Them There, IN MY OPINION- In 2010, taking into account the Murdered ISLAND WOMEN due to Domestic Violence It IS Unexcusable for ANY Judge TO let This guy Walk. THIS SENTENCE IS WHY WOMEN WHO ARE LIVING IN HE!! HERE , Being Beaton AND Emotionaly-Psycoligicaly ABUSED DON'T And WON'T COME FORWARD TO Get away from their ABUSER. YOU KNOW IT. THIS SENTENCE handed to Doyle on the proverbial 'Silver Platter' IS ANOTHER Example of Why WE, Canadians NEED TO Better educate Ourselves on How To remove rouge judges AND lawyers From Our Or Province's - Our Country's Legal-Justice ...IL-Legal & Un-Just/Justice System. Seems PEI has a good man, an honest-Just man in John MacMillan.

Douglas should be removed from the bench, his judgements are out of sync with reality.

God forbid the abuser should be inconvenienced. It's truly amazing how some athletes egos get in their way of sound judgement. I have a novel idea, the PEI Justice system demonstrate to the rest of Canada that abuse is not tolerated regardless of your profession or connections. Simply pathetic.
