Eight police cars took part in the arrest Monday evening of a jail escapee from Summerside who was apprehended in a vehicle in Stratford.
John Joseph Expedit Gallant, 18, escaped from Prince County Jail in Summerside over the weekend.
Police said that following up information from the public, officers pulled over a vehicle at approximately 6:30 p.m. on the Keppoch Road in Stratford. Gallant was a passenger in the vehicle and both he and the driver were taken into custody.
Police from various RCMP detachments in the area assisted Summerside police in making the arrest.
Gallant was jailed at the provincial correction centre in Sleepy Hollow while the second man is under investigation for being an accessory to Gallant's escape. Police suspect that Gallant had help in escaping from the Summerside jail area after climbing over the fence.
Summerside police had been notified Friday at 10:20 p.m. that Gallant had escaped from jail by climbing over a fence which had razor wire along the top. He was wearing prison-issue blue shorts and no shoes.
He had been remanded into custody on July 8 to face two charges of breaking and entering.
