John Joseph Expedit Gallant, of St. Rapheal Road in Wellington, is described as five-foot-nine, 170 pounds with a medium build, brown hair, hazel eyes and was reported to have jumped over a razor-wire fence and is believed to have suffered several cuts on his body as a result.
The suspect was wearing prison-issued blue shorts and had no shoes on at the time of the escape.
Summerside police services received the call at approximately 10:20 p.m. Saturday night and said the suspect was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with Summerside Pride on the front, blue capri sweatpants, a grey Nike hoodie and white with black flip flops.
Police believe he may be heading to the Charlottetown area.
Gallant was remanded into custody on July 8 on two charges of break and enter into residences. He had his next court appearance set for July 21 to answer to the charges.
Police are not releasing any other details of the escape.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Gallant is asked to call the closest police agency.
