The lawyer representing former P.E.I. Rocket forward Chris Doyle entered not guilty pleas Thursday on his client's behalf to charges of assault and damage to property laid in connection with an incident that took place last September.
Doyle's defence counsel has expressed the desire to have the trial as soon as possible.
A trial date in February was proposed but the Crown said a witness necessary for the Crown's case is in Sweden on an exchange visit and won't be back on the Island until July. The defence proposed that the witness in question be flown back for the trial.
Crown prosecutor John McMillan said he would discuss the matter with the police.
There is some question as to who would pay to fly the witness from Sweden to P.E.I.
Provincial court Chief Judge John Douglas has adjourned the case for two weeks to set a date for trial.
Doyle did not appear in court.
He was traded in late December from the Rocket to Victoriaville, Quebec.
