Halifax police have released an updated photograph of Joseph Jacko Obed as police agencies from across the Maritimes search for the man who walked away from a halfway house on Monday and did not return.
A parole warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Halifax police Const. Brian Palmeter says despite ongoing efforts, officers with the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP High-Risk Enforcement Action Team have not been able to locate Obed.
"We're received some calls, but so far have been unable to locate him," said Palmeter.
Obed 42, is considered a high risk to re-offend.
Obed is well known to Island police and could be planning to return to P.E.I.
In 2007, prosecutors stayed charges of breaking and entering and sexual assault because they did not believe there was a reasonable prospect of Obed being convicted.
He also faced a handful
of separate charges, including assault, forcible confinement, and resisting
arrest.
Anyone with information regarding Obed's whereabouts is asked to contact Halifax police at (902) 490-5016, their local police force or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

If he's known as high risk why wasn't he in jail instead of a halfway house?

It would be a help if the police provided the up dated picture in the first place which looks nothing like the first one . why does he frequent PEI and is he is not convicted on chargers than what is the point , He will stick with the aboriginal population somewhere to try to hide as they may not know his past or him at all putting them at risk .That way he can do what he wants to others and the police will not bother
