HALIFAX - Two federal New Democrats say Transport Canada has to do something about a derelict ship that ran aground off Cape Breton almost a year ago.

Toronto MP Olivia Chow and Nova Scotia MP Peter Stoffer have scheduled a news conference for today in Halifax.

The decommissioned bulk carrier M-V Miner has been stuck on Scatarie Island since Sept. 20.

It was being towed to a scrapyard in Turkey when its tow line broke in heavy seas.

Earlier this month, the company asked to dismantle the ship said a pre-demolition survey had been completed, but approvals were still needed from the provincial and federal governments.
