VANCOUVER - Canada's Birthplace of Confederation will welcome the Olympic flame late next year.
The torch relay for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games arrives in Prince Edward Island on Nov. 21, 2009.
There will be 250 torch bearers to carry the flame over two days on the Island, reaching 26 communities.
In addition to a stop at the provincial legislative building in Charlottetown, the torch will pass through the Anne of Green Gables house in Cavendish and over the Confederation bridge.
Ninety-nine per cent of the province's population will be within a one-hour drive of the relay route.
Overall, the torch will travel a total of 45,000 kilometres by land, sea and air, from Victoria to Cape Spear, Nfld., and back to British Columbia before the flame is lit for the Winter Games in February 2010.
