St. Eleanors -
More than 7,000 litres of gasoline leaked underground after a truck collided with a gas pump breaking the gas line at the St. Eleanors Irivng Saturday.
Summerside Police Sgt. Barry Arsenault said police believe the same vehicle
ran into another gas pump later the same day.
A pump at the Ultramar station on South Drive was also struck Saturday.
Damage in that case was minor, though some fuel was spilled.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the driver of
the vehicle involved in the collisions. Surveillance videotape has been reviewed, Arsenault said, which helped identify the vehicle. Officers are now tracking down who rented the truck, but the police must still identify who was actually behind the wheel.
"What we need is who was driving it, because it may not be the same
person," he said.
Police are treating the incident as a hit and run as Irving employees saw the driver exit the vehicle, examine the damage and then leave the scene.
Arsenault said he expects to know who rented the truck by the end of the day.
