TIGNISH - Four new projects in western Prince Edward Island will share in a pot of more than $895,000.

Premier Robert Ghiz and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair held an early morning tour of Prince County on Wednesday dropping off cash in Tignish, O'Leary and Linkletter.

Ghiz says the money comes from the Island Community Fund. He said he was still in the opposition benches when he recognized the need for funding for small projects, particularly in rural areas of the province.

"When I first came into government I realized that a lot of our smaller communities do not have the same resources that the Summerside's and Charlottetown's do to be able to access different funds," Ghiz told The Guardian.

"I wanted to make a fund that would help out our rural communities in this province, to help them with their community centres, with their rinks, with different projects that were perhaps a little bit smaller and didn't fit into the mega-million-dollar projects and that's exactly what this is doing."

Renovations will be completed at the Tignish Parish Centre in Tignish, which has been a centre for cultural events, community activities and social functions. Total cost of the project is $108,795.

Constructions crews continue to install wallboards while the P.E.I. premier toured the centre early Wednesday morning.

Renovations are being carried out both inside and outside and the kitchen is being remodeled.

Ghiz then made a stop at the Tignish Health Co-op.

The Tignish Health Co-op is a community-owned health centre. It houses physician offices, a dental clinic and a pharmacy.

The board of directors will be completing an addition to its facilities that will house a range of health and health-related services. The total cost of the project is $203,585.

The work will be completed in May.

In O'Leary, the Community Centre will be upgraded through improvements to the parking lot and a new barrier-free access with a total cost of $120,000. The centre houses the local fire department, civic offices, library, daycare and public meeting rooms.

The Community of Linkletter will be constructing a new community centre at a total cost of $462,408.

Linkletter is located just west of Summerside.

"The new Rural Action Plan developed by the provincial government sets out a roadmap and 40 specific actions now underway or being finalized," said Ghiz.

"The development of rural communities is a major priority of the provincial government and I look forward to continuing to work with rural Islanders to promote jobs and growth."

Thanks for the unintelligible prognostication Mike. Next time slow down and breathe before you mash out some spin.

Obviously a feeble attempt to buy votes, You will need to do a lot more than this to get your votes back Mr. Ghiz.
Why is he not wearing a hard hat on a construction site?
    Is he above the law?

I'm not sure what you're rambling about Mike... but anyway these are all very worthwhile projects so I don't see any problem with Premier Ghiz going around to see their progress.

This gets Ghiz to Rural PEI.

When he can hand out some of OUR money he goes to Rural PEI.

But when the Strategy on Saving Rural PEI was released Ghiz didn't think that was important enough reason to to Rural PEI.

For that event he chose to be in Mexico..but when he handing OUR money than he goes to Rural PEI.

Well Rural PEI won't forget Mr. Ghiz..November 2011 is coming fast Mr. Ghiz.

What a joke, stop wasting our money and re-open our schools. Get our 4 year olds off the school buses and stop trying to make school teachers out of baby sitters and baby sitters out of school teachers. If Ghiz wants to help rural PEI provide incentives for business to create jobs.
