A new restaurant and nightclub featuring 11 different types of hot dogs and 10 flavours of chicken wings is getting ready to open its doors for business in Charlottetown.

The DogHouse Eatery and Nightclub, scheduled to open July 5, is the brainchild of managing partner Kyle King, 21, originally from Grande Prairie, Alta., who said the unique concept for the eatery/nightclub came from his experiences as a manager in the industry and seeing what other businesses were doing over the years.

"I managed a bar in Alberta and took some things from there. (The concept) came from just piecing together different experiences over the years," King said.

The maroon and black building, located on 85 Belvedere Ave. in Charlottetown stands out from the rest of the businesses in the strip mall and features a VIP room with leather couches and satellite TV, a DJ booth encased in leather, a dance floor, a pool table and a dining area.

The eatery/nightclub will also host pay per views such as the UFC and other sporting events.

He wasn't sure what the final product was going to look like but he knew the environment and ambiance he wanted to create, King said.

"I would say it has a modern-industrial ambiance.

It's very unique. "The business is the result of over four years of planning and about four business plans. After all was said and done, we decided on an eatery/nightclub," King said.

"We were originally going to do a hotdog chain. It just grew and grew from there."

Considering the close proximity to UPEI, he hopes to target university students and is working on forming a partnership with them to help promote events and special theme nights, King said.

"I (want to) promote events for them and work with the students."

The DogHouse is open from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 11 a.m.-12 a.m. on Sundays and features a full menu.

Is there anything that has not been tied to cancer? From the water we drink (possibly tainted from years of pesticide use) to the air we breath (again pesticides) to the food we eat (pesticides), all have at sometime been linked in some way to cancer. I even remember a few years ago, some group even tried to tie milk in to causing cancer. This is a good story on a young entrepreneur trying to open a business, we should be encouraging him, not putting him down.

Is the rain depressing you in Vancouver, Margaret, that you have to rain on this young man's business? What could be wrong with hot dogs and chicken wings? I can hardly wait to check it out.

what's your point, Margaret? The restaurant shouldn't be allowed to open? Shame on the owner for adding hotdogs to the menu?

Not too many eating establishments out there that don't have something potentially unhealthy on their menu. Everything in moderation, I say.

Don't forget to wear sunscreen when you're out picketing the hotdog stands this summer.

I can certainly appreciate all the effort put into this place so far, and I think it's about time a decent bar went around that area of town. I look forward to spending way too much money on hotdogs and beer. Stock decent bourbons at the bar please, not just the usual.

    Nice job Kyle!
I'm glad to read that my favourite food is finally getting the respect that it deserves! I'll be up to try all eleven kinds of dogs as soon as I can. Best of luck with the DogHouse!

I did not mean to personally attack you Kyle, I think it's fantastic that you are starting a business on his own,

One note to good luck, as it turns out I was born on the Island,

I can certainly appreciate all the effort put into this place so far, and I think it's about time a decent bar went around that area of town. I look forward to spending way too much money on hotdogs and beer. Stock decent bourbons at the bar please, not just the usual.

Alcohol and hot dogs, that sounds like a healthy business to start, hot dogs contain Sulphates which have been proven to divide DNA, ie , can cause CANCER. Good luck with it anyway

Hearing lots of good feedback from the community. Workers and friends there say you are demanding a spottless kitchen, have a top notch chef and a great menu. I for one can't wait for you to open. Best of Luck
