The Nature Conservancy of Canada has scheduled a celebrity roast to celebrate the lasting contributions Diane Griffin has made to land conservation on Prince Edward Island over many decades.

Griffin, NCC's program manager on the Island, has signalled her intention to retire for a third time (though the first from NCC) at year's end.

The event honouring Diane Griffin, “A Rare Species,” is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Culinary Institute of Canada at Holland College in Charlottetown. The reception is at 6 p.m. and dinner is to begin at 7 p.m.

Dinner tickets are $100 each. A charitable tax receipt from NCC will be given for a portion of the ticket.

Griffin has been active with NCC in Prince Edward Island since 1999, and is in charge of identifying key areas for habitat protection and helping secure them. Previously, Griffin was a volunteer on NCC's Atlantic Regional Board of Directors and worked with other conservation groups.

A dedicated public servant, Griffin was also deputy minister of environment on Prince Edward Island. She is currently an elected member of the Town of Stratford municipal council.

NCC's Atlantic regional vice president, Linda Stephenson, praised Griffin for dedicating her entire life to making a difference protecting natural spaces.

“Diane has had a very distinguished career and she is well known and respected throughout Prince Edward Island and across the Maritimes,” said Stephenson. “It should be a pleasant evening to pay tribute to Diane who has given her time and passion to saving wilderness and coastal areas in all corners of the province.”

NCC is seeking corporate sponsors to support the event. Businesses, corporations, groups and people wishing to participate, buy tables or individual tickets are invited to contact Faith Flemming at or phone toll free at 1-877-231-4400.
