Deputy Mayor Stu MacFadyen, chair of the city’s economic development and culture committee, Mayor Clifford Lee, and Laurel Lea, Confederation Bridge co-ordinator of marketing and community affairs pose with city mascot Charlie Town to announce promote Winterfun Weekend, which will take place from Feb. 16-18.
The official opening of the Charlottetown Winterfun weekend will take place on Saturday, Feb. 16 with a free community pancake breakfast at the Sherwood Recreation Hall on Maple Avenue, sponsored by the Parkdale-Sherwood Lions Club.
The public is invited to join Mayor Clifford Lee and city mascot Charlie Town to kick off three days of family-oriented activities that will wrap up on Islander Day, Feb. 18.
"Winterfun Weekend offers a chance for our community to come together to enjoy a variety of fun, free activities,” said Lee. “There’s a lot on the schedule and a great mix of indoor and outdoor events so that Winterfun can take place regardless of the weather."
Winterfun Weekend is being presented by the Confederation Bridge and sponsored by the Province of P.E.I., UsedPEI.com and Discover Charlottetown.
Deputy Mayor Stu MacFadyen, chair of the city’s economic development and culture committee, said there is something for everyone. “For young children, we have the indoor activity centres at West Royalty Community Centre and the teddy bear picnic at The Guild, for example. We have educational events with our fire and police departments, indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family, and a number of events scheduled for seniors such as the seniors’ bingo at the Royal Canadian Legion and the seniors’ ceilidh at the Seniors’ Active Living Centre. We really hope that citizens – young and young-at-heart – will come out to join in the fun.”
The full schedule, including details on events that recommend advanced tickets or bookings, is available on the city’s website by clicking on the Winterfun Weekend button. A downloadable PDF is also available on the website.
The schedule was printed in the Guardian Saturday and will run again Friday. Limited printed copies are also available at City Hall and at the various venues during Winterfun Weekend.
