SYDNEY - Island artists played some of the most talked-about shows at the East Coast Music Awards in Sydney on the weekend.
They also did some serious business.
Artist manager Lloyd Doyle of the Sandbar Music Group said in an interview Saturday it's been extraordinary.
Doyle, who manages Catherine MacLellan, Meaghan Blanchard, Tim Chaisson, Colette Cheverie and a number of other artists, said this has been the best ECMA to date in terms of securing opportunities for Island artists.
"And that's true even for up-and-coming artists like The Sidewalks," Doyle said. "The Haunted Hearts are certainly making an impression here and raising their profile. And of course Meaghan and Catherine are capitalizing on the opportunities they've been given over the last year."
Doyle said Sydney has been great for Island artists from the business and artistic perspectives.
"Seeing these people get up on stage and be as good as they are is a wonderful experience because that's not always the way it was for us. But now we have all these great artists. Paper Lions did a great show last night at Smooth Herman's and I'm sure, although I haven't had the chance to see them, that Two Hours Traffic is doing their thing. Everybody is doing great. Colette (Cheverie) had a great roots room performance and Meaghan did
too."
Doyle said it's been very rewarding to see this all unfold.
