Jaffer, Guergis expecting a baby

OTTAWA - Rahim Jaffer said he wanted to set the record straight at his second appearance before a House of Commons committee.

But the former Tory MP's appearance wound up raising new questions about his business dealings and contact with government officials.

Jaffer has been accused of illegal lobbying and potential influence-peddling through the company he co-founded after he lost his seat in the 2008 election.

MPs who listened to his new testimony said they still didn't find his explanations credible about why he used his wife's parliamentary resources.
Jaffer responded at one point by lashing out at his former colleagues in the Conservative caucus.
He said he didn't recognize his old party anymore based on the way they had treated his wife, former junior minister Helena Guergis.
Guergis was ousted from the Conservative caucus in April after the party heard allegations she had been helping Jaffer peddle influence in a scheme to defraud investors.
Jaffer revealed earlier this week that the couple is expecting a baby.

    Apparently, Mr. Jaffer has not yet figured out that his old cronies in the Conservative Party of Canada now regard him as a liability rather than an asset to the Party.

    It was most interesting to find out that he has lost his green Canadian passport (that is only issued to elected officials or people on official government business) when asked to produce it to prove that he hadn't been using the passport on personal business. At least he seems to have plenty of his MP business cards for identification!

    lol- Jaffer wound up helping to bring about a rare show of unity among the parties this parliamentary session they All voted to call Jaffer at a special meeting this Thursday morning. Jaffers lawyer Frank Addario said he would attend.

    Just before Jaffer issued his Statement, the government Operations Committee had reacted angrily to his absence and suggested he could face a Contempt-of-Parliament Charge if he didnt comply with the Summons. They have been waiting to ask him about Discrepancies in his Testimony At his first appearence, April 21.

    Jafer's Statement Also says, I very much wish to appear before the Committee and answer all reasonable questions properly within the scope of the Committees mandate, I do not wish to extend this process, which has been tortuous for me and my family, any longer than necessary. (boo-who Rahim-boo who Helena. NOW WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT PEI, ISLANDERS? :)

    This has gone Beyond Disrespect TO Belligerence, said NDP MP Nathan Cullen. The Excuses of Mr. Jaffer have been Exhausted. There is Nowhere Else For Him To Hide.

    It was most interesting to find out that he has lost his green Canadian passport (that is only issued to elected officials or people on official government business) when asked to produce it to prove that he hadn't been using the passport on personal business. At least he seems to have plenty of his MP business cards for identification!
