The Big Red Music Festival got a whole lot bigger Tuesday with the announcement that Grammy-nominated American rock act The Killers have been signed to perform at the festival on July 12.
With more than 22 million records sold worldwide The Killers should prove to be a big draw for the festival, which previously confirmed Marianas Trench, Bridgit Mendler, Lights, Crystalyne, Sam Roberts, Hey Rosetta! and Adam Baldwin would be on the bill.
Formed in Las Vegas in 2001 The Killers have released four studio albums to date, Hot Fuss, Sam's Town, Day & Age, and Battle Born, all of which have gone to No. 1 in the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland.
They’ve also released one compilation album, Sawdust, one live recording, Live from Royal Albert Hall, and a greatest hits record, Direct Hits.
The Killers have been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, seven Brit Awards and 24 New Musical Express Awards. They are also the recipients of the SASCAP Vanguard Award.
Jeff Squires, president of the Big Red Music Festival, is thrilled with the growth of the festival.
“Big Red Music Fest is getting bigger for the 2014 season and we are overjoyed that the festival will now be two weekends surrounding Canada Day. June 28, June 29, July 1 and July 12, all encompassing will make Charlottetown the place to be during the Canada Day long weekend.”
Tickets for the Big Red Music Festival will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at www.bigredfest.ca, at the Confederation Centre of the Arts and through their ticketing line at 1-877-569-7767.
