The TD P.E.I. Jazz and Blues Festival is expanding in 2014, its 10th anniversary year, to include a concert series celebrating the 150th anniversary of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference.

The P.E.I. Jazz and Blues Festival will take place Aug. 21-23 in Charlottetown and includes the Confederation Concert Series, which will feature performances by artists from every province in Canada.

“We are thrilled to be mounting an enhanced and expanded festival during the P.E.I. 2014 celebrations,” said festival chairman Doug Millington. “We’ve been delivering world-class entertainment with a special focus on Canadian artists for a decade now. We are confident 2014 will be our best year yet.”

Monday, the provincial and federal governments announced funding for the festival and concert series.

The federal government, through ACOA, is contributing $15,000 towards the P.E.I. Jazz and Blues Festival. The concert series is getting a further $25,000 through a P.E.I. 2014 fund grant.

“This new concert series will augment an already fantastic music festival while attracting artists and music fans from across the country to Prince Edward Island during the 2014 celebration year," said P.E.I. Tourism Minister Robert Henderson.

“The Jazz and Blues Festival is a wonderful event that celebrates arts and culture, and further promotes the Atlantic Canadian region," said Egmont MP Gail Shea during the announcement. “Canada is a premier tourism destination, and our government continues to support small and medium-sized businesses and tourism groups through projects that help promote and strengthen this important industry."

During its 10th anniversary this coming summer, the TD P.E.I. Jazz and Blues Festival will be able to boast that it has featured 200 performances – 196 of them featuring Canadian artists.

In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (Sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which paved the way to Confederation. P.E.I. 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the Sesquicentennial celebrations.
