Students at Stonepark Intermediate in Charlottetown are doing their part to help Haiti.
Operation Stonepark Helping Haiti has each class fundraising in creative ways to collectively reach a goal of $5,000 by Feb. 5.
In the first two days, the school raised $2,400.
Nelson Valois, a Grade 9 teacher at the school, has always had his class fundraise for those in need.
When the earthquake struck Haiti he wanted to see the whole school work together.
"A school is a mini-society. This is showing the kids that no matter how small your group is, you can make a difference."
An educational aspect is being worked into the fundraising, as well.
The students have been learning about Haiti, earthquakes and they will see what the future for Haiti could be like, said Valois.
Classes have been surpassing their individual goals of $150, he said.
On Friday, a variety show is in the works to end the two weeks of fundraising.
Local bands will perform, as well as students from the school, said Valois.

I think it is great how the students are getting involved with this. There are mini fundraisers going on in each class and the kids are getting to choose how they would like to fundraise.
With a school as big as Stonepark, all it takes is for each child to bring in $5 to raise $4500 dollars! I hope they surpass their goal.
Way to go Stonepark
