Pat (Patricia) Malone of Charlottetown, a well-known social worker and community volunteer with her husband Ray, died Sunday after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Her volunteer activities included secretary of the P.E.I. Seniors Citizens' Federation; founder and chair of the Seniors United Network; co-founder of the P.E.I. chapter of PFLAG Canada; secretary of the Canadian Pensioners Concerned; secretary for the St. Margaret's of Scotland Pioneer Cemetery Committee; the Atlantic Seniors Health Promotion Network; and the Canadian Association for Retired Persons.
Malone was also deeply involved in her church and was a leader in Marriage Preparation Programs, Marriage Encounter and Engaged Encounter.
She authored the first edition of the Prince Edward Island Seniors' Guide and last month was recognized with an award from the Human Rights Commission for co-founding the P.E.I. Chapter of PFLAG Canada.
Patricia Marie MacDonald Malone was born in Souris and graduated from Souris High School in 1960 and from the P.E.I. School of Nursing in 1963. She married Ray Malone in 1965 at St. Mary's Church in Souris and the couple had three children, Kim, Carole and Keir.
Over the years, the Malones moved from one end of the Island to the other as Ray pursued his teaching career.
Pat worked in her chosen career of nursing, while being a full-time wife and mother. She was still working as director of nursing at Sunset Lodge when she fulfilled her dream of attending courses at UPEI.
In 1987, she graduated Cum Laude from Dalhousie University with her bachelor of social work degree. She worked in numerous positions for the federal and provincial governments.
Malone was described as a tireless worker, preferring to be in the background and was a champion for the marginalized and the underdog.
Her funeral and burial took place Wednesday at St. Margaret's of Scotland Church in St. Margaret's.
She was a driving force in the formation of the pioneer cemetery committee to restore and repair the historical site.

Prince Edward Island has lost a precious jewel in her crown.
This empathetic woman would be a blessing in any community she lived in.

I do believe the First paragraph of this article would read like this-

I was so saddened to read about Pat's passing. I once was a neighbor to this lovely woman and her husband Ray. Pat always had a cheerful disposition and a quick smile. She was truly a delightful person. My thoughts are with you Ray and your children. I just pray that you will be able to get through this very dark time in your life. I know Pat wouldn't want it any other way.

    The View from Here...........brief comment

    1. I did not know Mrs Pat Malone, I knew her husband Ray from Passport to Employment. He was very passionate about his family and his work in the Education field. He is a gentleman in this regard.

Her Nursing and Volunteer work speaks volumes about her Love and Compassion for her family and others.
    2. For Ray I pray that the Peace of God would be with him and his family during this time of grief.
