SUMMERSIDE – Nova Scotia rock band The Trews are coming to Summerside in November.
The city has announced the group will be playing an “intimate” show in the Veteran’s Convention Centre in Credit Union Place on Friday, Nov. 8.
The Veteran’s Centre can hold as many as 450 people. The city didn’t state how many tickets are available, only that organizers are expecting them to sell quickly.
Booking the convention centre for a concert is an unusual move for the city; the space has to date been used almost exclusively for anything but concerts.
"Atlantic Canada has an abundance of talented musicians, comedians and other performers. Many smaller community centres, halls and theatres throughout the Maritimes regularly book performances for their communities as part of regional tours of these artists," said JP Desrosiers, director of community services for the City of Summerside. "Partnering with other small venues is a cost effective way to attract smaller more intimate shows to Summerside."
Mayor Basil Stewart welcomes the show.
“We are always looking for opportunities for the City of Summerside to expand its cultural boundaries and provide additional entertainment options in the community for residents and visitors. When people come to Summerside to see a show they spend money in our community, which is good for our local businesses. As a city we are always looking for ways to stimulate our local economy,” said Stewart.
Tickets are $30 plus taxes and fees and go on sale Tuesday, Oct. 8, at noon. They can be purchased online at cupevents.ca or over the phone at (902) 432-1234. They can also be purchased in person at the Credit Union Place box office Monday to Friday (12 to 8 p.m.) and Saturdays and Sundays (12 to 5 p.m.).
