HALIFAX — The good news keeps on coming for Island native Rose Cousins.

A few weeks ago, the singer/songwriter, who grew up in Cousin’s Shore, received her first Juno nomination for her most recent album, We Have Made a Spark.

This past weekend, Cousins hosted the 25th annual East Coast Music Awards Gala in Halifax, walking away with treble clef statues for folk recording of the year, solo recording of the year and songwriter of the year for her song, Go First.

She’s now revelling in the news that one of her songs will be featured on one of the most watched and acclaimed medical dramas currently on television.

And, Cousins admitted, the show is one of her favourites.

Grey’s Anatomy fans, if you listen closely during Thursday night’s episode, you’ll hear Cousins’ Go First playing in the background.

“If you have been at a show of mine in the last three years, you will have heard me tell any number of foolish ideas for plots over which my song Go First would work well in a ‘surgical drama’,” Cousins wrote on her Facebook page late last week when announcing the news.

She admitted, in that post, when she heard the news “I fully ugly face cried.”

“Well, it’s been a dream of mine for probably three years. I wrote the song, Go First, probably three years ago and I love that show and I listen to all the music that’s on it and several of my friends got songs on that show, too. I just kind of always had it as a dream,” said Cousins in an interview from Halifax Tuesday.

“Through meeting international delegates at the East Coast Music Association and taking trips to Los Angeles and people introducing people to people and showcases and such over the last three or four years, just getting the music into the right hands, that’s how it came about.”

Cousins got the news on March 5, a day before the start of East Coast Music Week.

“It’s really exciting,” she added. “It feels great, for sure. The Juno nomination, the Grey’s Anatomy, the ECMAs, but I probably cried the hardest for the Grey’s Anatomy thing. It’s been really great. It feels good.”

She’s been told only “a small snippet” about the storyline for the 17th episode in the show’s ninth season, which airs Thursday at 10 p.m. on CTV.

“They gave us a couple of indications of what’s happening when they play the song.”

Unfortunately, Cousins won’t be able to watch the episode as it airs Thursday night since she will be on stage, performing one of several upcoming shows in Maine.

“I follow the show pretty religiously. I’ve been a fan of it for all of its seasons,” added Cousins. “My manager is going to DVR it and we are going to watch it later.”

And reaching a potential audience of millions across the world is something Cousins said she could only dream of. That was before this week.

“It’s definitely going to be heard in front of the biggest audience yet. It has the potential to do lots of things. I don’t exactly know what because I never had a song on a show before,” she added. “Hopefully, I will sell a few more records and a few more people will maybe know my music.”

Rose, just recently have had the opportunity to enjoy your great talent. Last night on Gray's was a perfect scene placement of your 'Go First' song, the combo of both scene & song yielded a very spiritual & reflective mindset. Be proud & enjoy all your achievements, we Islanders are!

That is AMAZING news!! We are so proud of you... I can't imagine how incredible it will be for you to hear your song on Grey's. Man, I can't hear The Fray, How to Save a Life without crying, Or Snow patrol...remembering Izzy on the bathroom floor. Agggghhhh... *sniff* I'll be thinking of you when I watch, and probably ugly-face crying myself!
