SUMMERSIDE — Gordon Sumner — or, Sting, as he’s better known to music fans — is coming to Summerside.

The Journal Pioneer has learned that the prolific songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and former front man with The Police is bringing is his Back to Bass Tour to Credit Union Place this June.

Sting will perform his most celebrated hits, stripped down with a five-piece band, on stage inside Eastlink Arena on June 24.

The City of Summerside would not make anyone from its community services department or Credit Union Place available for comment.

Following the critical and popular success of Sting’s 2011-2012 world tour throughout North America, Europe, the UK, South Africa and Asia, promoter Live Nation announced that the Back to Bass Tour will continue in 2013, with stops across Europe and North America, including Summerside’s one-night only show.

The tour begins on May 30 in Kelowna, B.C., and extends across North America in June, with Summerside joining performances in such large cities as San Francisco, Chicago, Atlantic City and Boston.

Tickets for the Summerside show go on sale Monday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at www.cupevents.ca, at www.ticketmaster.ca or by phone at 1-855-985-5000.

Joining Sting on stage will be his longtime guitarist Dominic Miller, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, David Sancious on keyboards, Peter Ticket on electric fiddle and additional vocals by Jo Lawry.

Members of the Sting Fan Club will have the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance of the general public at www.sting.com.

I saw him with the Police in 2007 and last year with this solo tour. He was fantastic. Nothing wrong with his voice! So as for you Stung, you may want to stay home and save a seat for someone with an open mind and access to youtube.

Oh good, another geriatric 'rocker' needing to grate our musical sensibilities and bore us with his politically-correct naivety. I knew Gordon in the UK when he actually worked for a living as a teacher - poor teacher, in truth, but an even worse singer.

Hey Stung , kinda sounds like your being a bit of a Debbie Downer.Perhaps it was an off night for the guy, maybe a case of singers throat .Not making excuse's for Sting but I have a buddy who is in the music industry in Toronto & saw this particular Sting tour & say's it was one of the best show's he's ever seen. For those in doubt just check you tube, tons of recent Sting clips & you can judge for yourself.

I saw Sting a few years ago in Toronto with The Police. His voice is shot. He really shouldn't be taking people's money for the product in return. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but he can't hit the high notes anymore.
