The P.E.I. 2014 Inc. board of directors announced Friday that Penny Walsh McGuire has accepted the role of executive director.
The announcement was made by P.E.I. 2014 Inc. board president David MacKenzie.
Walsh McGuire has been serving in the senior leadership role since Paulette Soloman resigned in early December, in addition to her role as vice-president of marketing and partnerships.
“Penny Walsh McGuire is an exceptional leader,” said MacKenzie. “The P.E.I. 2014 Inc. board is delighted she is willing to move into the executive director position on a permanent basis and fully confident she will be successful in leading the management team.”
Prior to joining P.E.I. 2014 Inc. in April 2012, Walsh McGuire served as chief marketing officer of the Confederation Centre of the Arts; led the marketing and communications campaign of the award winning Atlantic Canada House at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics; and served as account executive at a major Madison Avenue advertising agency in New York City.
Walsh McGuire sits on the Tourism Advisory Council and is a candidate for the UPEI executive MBA.
In 2014, Canadians will mark the 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) of the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which paved the way to Canadian Confederation. P.E.I. 2014 Inc. is facilitating the planning, promotion and implementation of the sesquicentennial commemorations. The P.E.I. 2014 program of events and activities will honour the past, celebrate the present, and plan a bold tomorrow.
