SUMMERSIDE — Country superstar Alan Jackson is coming to Summerside.

The two-time Grammywinning singer will bring his latest tour to Credit Union Place on Wednesday, May 1.

“On behalf of Summerside City Council we are pleased to welcome Alan Jackson to Summerside for what will be an amazing night of entertainment” said Mayor Basil Stewart on Thursday. “This event will draw fans from across the Maritimes to our beautiful Credit Union Place.”

Jackson is one of the most successful singersongwriters in music.

He is in the elite company of Paul McCartney and John Lennon among songwriters who’ve written more than 20 songs that they’ve recorded and taken to the top of the charts.

Jackson is one of the 10 best-selling artists since the inception of SoundScan, ranking alongside the likes of Eminem and Metallica.

Jackson has written or co-written 24 of his 35 No. 1 hit singles and is an 18-time ACM Award winner, a 16-time CMA Award recipient, and a two-time Grammy-winning artist whose songwriting has earned him the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award and an induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame as a 2011 Songwriter/Artist inductee.

His most recent single, You Go Your Way, is from his chart-topping album, Thirty Miles West, which was released June 5.

“It’s a tremendous opportunity to work with 5th String Entertainment who have brought names such as Johnny Reid, Vince Gill, Keith Urban and more to the Maritimes. We hope this event will develop into an ongoing relationship with this new customer to our building,” said Summerside’s event development officer JP Desrosiers.

Tickets start at $69.50 and go on sale Dec. 14 at the Credit Union Place box office at 1-855-985-5000 or online at www.cupevents.ca.

Mayor Basil Stewart and Deputy Mayor Bruce MacDougall should stay out of this grand standing stuff, there are people within the City paid to promote events. Since you both and the Old Boys Club made complete fools of yourself with the Concert Fiasco, move with ease on these issues, instead of spending millions on the pretext of Small City Big Ideas, what a mess Summerside is in and the buck stops with the Mayor, end of story. Interesting top senior personnel have bailed out recently, before the axe falls. Who will protect the Old Boys Club now. Remember boys " What goes around comes around"
