MONTAGUE - Mayor Richard Collins recommended a hiring freeze and a comprehensive review of town administration here Monday night following an incident of alleged theft from town coffers.
The motion was introduced by Coun. Peter Doucette who said the review would provide an overhaul of duties and positions at the town hall.
There are currently only two employees, while a third has been suspended following the allegations of theft.
The RCMP are investigating but results of a forensic audit are expected to take some time.
Coun. Janice MacBeth, along with Coun. Marion Robertson, suggested it would cost the town more money to hire a firm and the situation could be handled internally.
However, council was advised funding might be available.
The motion passed 4-2.
Montague agrees to review of town administration

What a joke. Municipal government in a place as small as PEI is a joke.
Time to dissolve every municipality and have a single government for this tiny island.
How does the saying go? Too many generals (politicians) and not enough grunts (taxpayers). -

After everything that has transpired over the past two years with Montague council, they are better off to hire a firm to make recommendations on how their community services should be delivered and duties shared. I realize this is a new council, but they are better off to hire a firm
