Colin Craig knew the special trip wouldn't take his daughter's hurt away, but what a beautiful Band-Aid just the same.
Craig's eight-year-old girl Olivia has severe hemophilia - one of only three girls in the world known to have the lifelong bleeding disorder that prevents blood from clotting properly.
Bleeding into joints and muscles can cause stiffness, pain, severe joint damage, disability and sometimes death.
"It comes down to when she has a bleed, she's hurt, she cries," said Craig, who is also a hemophiliac.
"You can't take that away. It goes away with time."
Craig says some days are tough but the family gets through those, tries to put them behind, and remember the good ones.
Tough to top the good memory that was two years in the making through the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada Prince Edward Island Chapter.
Olivia's wish to meet her hero Hannah Montana, the popular TV character played by Miley Cyrus, came to fruition at a concert in Boston on Nov. 7.
Olivia met Cyrus for five minutes before the popular performer hit the stage to sing.
The Winsloe girl could not believe her good
fortune.
"I was speechless ... it seems like a dream," she said.
The concert, too, was "awesome" especially when Cyrus strapped into a motorcycle and circled above the crowd.
Olivia says she has seen every episode of the Hannah Montana TV series that debuted on the Disney Channel in 2006. She's seen the 3-D movie and has all of the Hannah Montana recordings.
"I like that she's really funny, she's nice, and just because she's a pop star doesn't mean she's all that, it just means that she's something different," said Olivia.
"She makes the world go around for other people. And she's just a good singer."
Craig says the trip was unforgettable not only for Olivia, but for him, his wife Joann, and the couple's oldest daughter Alexis.
"Well it was overwhelming for the whole family," he said, wiping tears from his eyes.
"It was a week of making all the bad things go away. It was just surreal."
The funds for the wish were raised last year during the annual Vogue Optical Curl for Wishes. The celebrity curling event raised just under $20,000 - enough to cover two wishes.
Craig is filled with gratitude towards both the Children's Wish Foundation and the curling event for helping bring so much joy to his daughter.
"Well it's phenomenal," he said.
"Thank you is not enough."
Organizers hope funds raised from the sixth edition of the curling event (April 8-10 at the Charlottetown Curling Club) will bring more joy and create special memories.
"We are very excited to sponsor the Vogue Optical Cure for Wishes," said Cory Gray, vice-president of Vogue Optical.
"It's a chance for people to come out and try the sport of curling, get involved, have some fun, and in doing so help grant the wish of an Island child."
The Children's Wish Foundation works with the community to provide children suffering from life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to experience their most heartfelt wish.
Twenty-five curling teams will have an opportunity to play with one of Canada's high-profile curlers, such as world junior silver medallist Brett Gallant as well as the runners-up at the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts: Erin Carmody, Kathy O'Rourke, Geri Lynn Ramsay and Shelly Bradley.
The top 10 fundraising teams will have first pick of the celebrity skips.
The registration fee of $600 per team of four or $150 per person includes an opening night reception hosted at Hunters Ale House, a minimum of four four-end games, trivia, lunch at Hunters, entertainment and closing awards ceremony.
