FREDERICTON - New Brunswick Liberals are raising concerns over the University of New Brunswick's decision to discontinue its nursing program in Bathurst after 2017.
Health critic Donald Arseneault says 39 per cent of New Brunswick nurses are over the age of 50 and he's concerned there could soon be a shortage.
He says the government needs to develop a plan to ensure that there are enough health-care professionals to meet the needs in the future.
Post-secondary Education Minister Jody Carr says the government is working to ensure that people are matched with jobs that need to be filled.
Carr says the University of New Brunswick's role is to provide quality training programs, but it is independent of the government.
