FREDERICTON - A committee of the New Brunswick legislature meets today to receive a report into the constituency expenses of Progressive Conservative backbencher Greg Davis.

The committee asked legislature staff to examine the expenses after the Conservative party said it had to cover more than $5,000 in rent for Davis's riding office in the 2011-12 fiscal year.

The government says Davis fell behind in his rent again, and an arrangement was made with the clerk of legislature to cover that cost.

Annual reports from the provincial comptroller's office say that Davis claimed his maximum allotment of $40,000 for constituency expenses in the fiscal years of 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Davis, the member for Campbellton-Restigouche Centre, announced last month that he would not seek re-election in September due to unspecified health reasons.

Davis has not returned requests for comment.
