OTTAWA - Canada's competition watchdog says four major publishers of electronic books have agreed to changes that will result in lower retail prices.

The Competition Bureau says the agreements follow an 18-month investigation into the ebook industry in Canada.

It says the deal will remove restrictions that prevented ebook retailers from lowering their prices, contrary to Canada's competition law.

The bureau says it has signed agreements with Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan and Simon & Schuster.

Its investigation into the electronic book industry continues.
