It started as a joke but now the roundabout donut is one of the hottest selling items on the menu at the Mount Edward Road Tim Hortons in Charlottetown.
"We're selling tons," said district manager Michelle Cudmore.
Cudmore added the idea started as a joke by one of the head bakers after staff found out there would be a roundabout put in at the Mount Edward Road-Allen Street intersection.
"We had a meeting talking about Camp Day fundraising and our head baker was joking about making a roundabout donut," said Cudmore.
"I thought it was a great idea."
The donut consists of a chocolate dip covered in gummy cars driving around the donut with a strip of yellow icing in the middle to make it look like a road.
"We're having lots of fun with them," she said, adding a portion of the proceeds from the donut sales Wednesday went to Camp Day fundraising.
However, the donut will continue to be on sale at the Mount Edward location for a while longer.
"We're going to continue to sell them until the roundabout is completed and then one month following," Cudmore said.

Great idea and way to make fun of a messy situation and loss of your Tim's customers due to all the roundabout construction.

Great marketing for Tim's by creating AWARENESS.

I am thinking this is great. Maybe Tims could now start naming all their donuts---after something that one thinks of when you hear donut. Like Officer donut--Sargent donut--Fisherman/Pogey donut!!!

This was a refreshing change from all the whining. It is nice to see some folks with a sense of humour.

Way to take a crumby situation for the franchise and make it into an awesome marketing idea. I have to get one, just to see what it looks like.

great for you! And good for Tim Horton's for allowing this! (There are strict franchise rules on product development) And no government grant involved either! But the real question is, who benefits financially from having a roundabout at this particular intersection? (other than the contractor who builds it) Because traffic patterns certainly don't require it.
