Consumer confidence is on the rise again in Prince Edward Island, according to the most recent poll by Corporate Research Associates.
This measure continues an upward trend and is at its highest level since November 2007.
The Consumer Confidence Index in Atlantic Canada currently stands at 106.1 (up from 101.3 in August 2009).
Consumer confidence increased in all four Atlantic provinces, and remains highest in Newfoundland and Labrador (113.4, up from 111.0), followed by Prince Edward Island (105.1, up from 99.8), New Brunswick (105.0, up from 98.6), and Nova Scotia at 103.0 (up from 98.2).
"Increasing consumer confidence in Atlantic Canada bodes well for the region's economy," says Don Mills, president and CEO of Corporate Research Associates.
"Consumer spending is closely aligned to consumer confidence and consumer confidence in Atlantic Canada is likely the highest in Canada at the moment."
The Consumer Confidence Index is derived from a series of five questions related to the perceived state of the provincial economy, household economic situation, and conditions for major purchases. The index takes into account Atlantic Canadians' assessments of economic conditions at the present time as well as the outlook for the upcoming year.
Corporate Research Associates has been tracking consumer confidence in Atlantic Canada for more than 20 years.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly, an independent, quarterly survey of Atlantic Canadians, based on a sample of 1,501 adult residents.
The survey was conducted from Nov. 5 to Nov. 30.
Results are accurate to within plus or minus 2.5 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.

I read my sister's comment submitted to The Gaurdian RE: Poll Results, so I'm submitting what I googled : She googled- don mills+nova scotia+commonwealth games - plus- corporate research+commonwealth games+nova scotia.

I googled - bruce devenne + commonwealth games. Bruce was the driving force behind informing The People of Halifax and NovaScotia, The FACTS pertaining to the Halifax Bid for the 2014 CWGames. What the Polls said and what the Facts were, were two different things altogether. What began as The Public being told the Costs would be in the $700Million Dollar range, quickly escalated to $2+Billion Dollars. Private investors aka unelected government associates were trying to get The Taxpayors to pay for a NFL size Stadium for the Investors to take over after The Games. Land Devlopers , using PublicMonies to fix up a waterfront area to house CWG atheletes then planned to sell the athelites accomodations as Condos I see some of those same private investors that have been using Public Monies for them to personally profit off of are now also moved into PEI and You want to learn real quick about this ploy because it's being used on You now too. Private Investors/Land Developers/Realtors/Bankers-backed by the worst gov. since Buchanan/Mulroney- RobertGhiz, getting PublicMonies for their personal projects. REMEMBER- Any government that works in secret can't be trusted. Here's hoping Islanders catch on faster than NovaScotians did.

When you ask a broad question in a Poll like the one CRA asked, regarding the failed Halifax Bid for 2014 Commonwealth Game (or any other poll) without any probing follow ups to explore what the answer actually means, youre left with little but spin. The problem is that the polls were never really intended to find out what we actually thought about the Games bid. Its purpose was to help the Games promoters sell us on what we should think. Here's a few Links I know You Will find interesting & informative.

Secrecy surrounding the Halifax bid undermined public support amid widespread speculation that the final cost would be much higher than anticipated. http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20070308/halifax_games_070308?hub=EdmontonHome http://dcnonl.com/article/20060321700 - http://www.thecoast.ca/halifax/bruce-devenne/Content?oid=995634 -

(quote) The index takes into account Atlantic Canadians assessments of economic conditions at the present time as well as the outlook for the upcoming year. (unquote)

For the most part, it is simply a regurgitation of whatever is being fed to the public by the media. Media dictates public's perception/opinion.
Very few will take the time to carry out their own research. Too much other important stuff going on like Dancing With the Stars, American Idol, etc,

I don't pay any attention towhat Don Mills says or what CRA poll reuslts indicate, After the failed NS bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Don Mills involvement in the Bid process plus his personally profiting from the process, through his Office Furnishings business that has a history with NS Con governmnt contracts.
I've taken the sage advice from a former Comment I read at The Gaurdian- You have a Computer and access to The Internet, USE IT!
    i GOOGLED, Don Mills+nova scotia+commonwealth games.
Lots of informations I know You'll find interesting from cbc.ca and thecoast.ca.
Had the Commonwealth Games moved forward, the city of Halifax would have essentially been bankrupt, for decades.

Had the Commonwealth Games moved forward, the city of Halifax would have essentially been Bankrupt, for Decades

And there's still a larger point to be made: there were, and are, political players who were responsible for the near-disaster that hit Halifax. Don Mills is one of the political players.

Don Mills, Chair of Bring on the Games, a group supporting the bid, said he was disappointed with the decision to withdraw but backs the province and city. We accept the verdict of the two levels of government in terms of the issue of affordability, said Mills, one day after he accused Kelly and Premier Rodney MacDonald of a lack of leadership on the issue.(?)
When I got to two government-sponsored consultant reports, I realized that I'd hit pay dirt. The reports blasted nearly every aspect of Halifax 2014's efforts and called on government agencies to rethink their support for the Commonwealth Games bid.

The Con government sponsored consultant reports made clear that what was first billed as a $785 million project would end up costing upwards of $2 Billion. More, the Games proposal rested on a series of dubious assumptions that were never made public, including that Halifax Regional Municipality...etc.

Do yourslf a favor and google for more informations. BY THEWAY- How much of a Debt from the Summer Games, is now being paid off of the backs of Islander's?
BEWARE ISLANDERS- What the corporate gov. connected 'associates' can't get away with in NS - they are putting it on 'the backs' of Islanders.
Don't you think the time has come for you to stand-up and fight for yourselves from being taken in?
You have a Computer &the Internet,
    USE IT! :)
