SUMMERSIDE - The Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of P.E.I. received a record of 25 nominations for its six entrepreneurial awards for 2016.
Last year, the chamber had 13 nominations for five awards.
The record number of submissions has been whittled down to 18 and were officially announced to the public during the recent members' luncheon in Summerside.
Chamber spokesman Martin Marcoux, said the selection committee was truly impressed by the quality of the nominations and was pleased to get to know several new businesses they weren't familiar with.
Among the finalists are Darrin Foulkes of Foulkes Production in Charlottetown, Robert Perry of Perry’s Electric in Tignish, and Robert Poirier, of Acadian Roofing in St. Raphaël, who are all vying for the president's award of excellence.
The winners will be announced during the 15th Acadian entrepreneurs' gala March 12 at the Centre Belle-Alliance in Summerside. During the night, the 2015 Young Millionaires Award will also be presented to a deserving youth who participated in last summer's program.
Gala tickets are on sale at the Wellington Rural Action Centre, the RDÉE P.E.I. office in Charlottetown and the reception desk at the Centre Belle Alliance.
