This year, there are 54 participating restaurants cooking up gourmet burgers with the hopes that their culinary creation will be crowned Prince Edward Island’s most loved burger.

The April 1 winter storm caused its launch event to be cancelled, but P.E.I. Burger Love has begun.

Now in its fourth year, P.E.I. Burger Love is a month-long celebration of 100 per cent Island beef.

This year, there are 54 participating restaurants cooking up gourmet burgers with the hopes that their culinary creation will be crowned Prince Edward Island’s most loved burger.

“The Island beef industry makes an important contribution to our economy and to economic activity in our rural communities,” said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry George Webster. “Government’s involvement with Burger Love reflects our commitment to a strong beef industry, a strong agriculture sector, and a strong Island community.”

Prince Edward Island Burger Love was created by Fresh Media, and is presented in partnership with Prince Edward Island Cattle Producers, P.E.I. Flavours and the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

Islanders are invited to be a part of this celebration by choosing a P.E.I. Burger Love creation while dining at participating local restaurants across the Island.

This year's burgers include such offbeat ingredients as pork, potatoes, eggs, kale, beet strings, coffee and even ice cream.

“Last year, we sold over 46,000 burgers through 31 restaurants in just one month, and there was over $580,000 in sales of burgers alone,” said Melody Dover of Fresh Media. “We think we may have the biggest non-franchise restaurant food campaign in Canada, and we invite the entire country to come dine with us.”

Part of the reason this promotion was setup was to bring business during a typically slow time of year for the restaurants.

Don, why do you feel you need to comment on every single story? Are you that sad and lonely that you have to have something negative to say about everything? Perhaps they do it this time of year because they are already plenty busy during tourist season and they want to generate more revenue in the off season? Try to think rather than expose your ignorance on every single issue ever brought up by the Guardian.

That was rather mean. You seem to be really upset about a simple comment. Maybe you should chill out with all the insults
