SUMMERSIDE — The Summerside technical services committee has cleared the way for city council to approve a multimillion-dollar development project along Central Street and Pope Road.
The project calls for the construction of two 24-apartment buildings at an estimated cost of $2.8 million per building.
The project will initially involve only one building. When that is occupied, a second one will be built.
Work is anticipated to begin in the middle of April or May 1, depending on the weather.
Each building will be three storeys high with apartments ranging in size from 1,000 square feet to 1,250 square feet. These will be two- and three-bedroom units, some with two baths others with one.
These are moderate to high-end buildings, designed for seniors or semi-seniors who want to sell their homes but who don't want to leave the community.
The issue will go before city council on Monday, March 17, for final approval.
