Medallion Smoked Salmon products not recalled, but CFIA cites previous 'deficiencies' at plant, montoring for food safety hazards

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has suspended the licence of Canadian Smoked Fish (1994) Inc., in Ebenezer, Prince Edward Island.
Canadian Smoked Fish (1994) Inc. processes hot and cold smoked fish products, sold as Medallion Smoked Salmon. The suspension was effective Oct. 18.
"The CFIA has determined that adequate controls for food safety described in the facility's quality management program are not being reliably implemented on a consistent basis," notes a news release from the food inspection agency. "The company has also failed to correct deficiencies previously identified through CFIA inspections."
The CFIA did not elaborate on what those deficiencies were, but did say that if inspectors find any food safety hazards, the agency will immediately inform the public.
The agency has not recalled any of the plant's products at this time, but Canadian Smoked Fish (1994) Inc. will not be allowed to resume operations until the company has fully complied with the inspectors' orders and the CFIA is confident in the plant's ability to manage food safety risks.
