Prince Edward Island Beer Festival will be held Sept. 6-7, 2013.
The Prince Edward Island Beer Festival will take place Sept. 6 - 7.
This revamped event, part of the Fall Flavours Festival, will be focussed on educating visitors and Islanders alike on the art and craft of brewing and tasting beer. The festival will feature over 75 beers, VIP packages, food pairings and late-night entertainment on the Charlottetown waterfront. Tickets are now on sale at www.peibeerfest2013.com, www.boxofficepei.com or at 1-877-569-7767.
The festival kicks off with a tasting session on Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. and will feature two tasting sessions on Saturday. Guests attending the evening tasting sessions will also receive free admission to the late night entertainment, taking place at the Charlottetown Event Grounds. The entertainment lineup will be announced at a later date.
The event is produced by the Prince Edward Island Brewing Company, which will host special programming from 4- 6 p.m. before each evening's tastings sessions for VIP ticket holders. The programming includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery, guided by the company's brewers who will be on hand to answer all of your beer and brewery questions. There will be complimentary food and beer-pairing treats inspired by the Island brews and a merchandise gift pack to take home. Transportation on the P.E.I. Brewing Company shuttle will be provided to the event grounds just in time for the start of the 6 p.m. tasting session.
Jeff Squires, president of the P.E.I. Brewing Company and the P.E.I. Beer Festival says he is thrilled that this festival is coming together.
"Craft beer is becoming a culture to many people and we feel, as a brewery, that we need to expand people's beer knowledge through fun and engaging activities," Squires said. "Similar festivals across the country are becoming events that shouldn't be missed and we are trying to make P.E.I. a destination for beer lovers. Being a part of the Fall Flavours Festival shows that people are starting to understand the craft of brewing and how, much like food preparation, there is so much to be learned and enjoyed."
Breweries confirmed to date include Amsterdam Brewery, Carlsberg Brewery, Garrison Brewing Company, Labatt?s, McAuslan Brewery, McClelland Premium Imports, Mill Street Brewing Company, Molson Coors,
Moosehead Brewery, The P.E.I. Brewing Company and Sleeman's Breweries.
The festival will also feature a Designated Driver Zone, an area to hang out and enjoy Pepsi products while spending time at the festival without alcoholic beverages.
