Royal Bank of Canada and TD Canada Trust say their customers are among those affected by a nationwide Visa outage.

The two banks confirmed the news through their official Twitter accounts.

Calls to Visa Canada were not immediately returned, but several credit card users across the country took to the social media website to complain that their cards were being declined when they tried to use them.

Isn't it funny how "cash" (still legal tender last I checked) doesn't have nation wide outages - due to technical problems, viruses, malware or systems being hacked. Even the much maligned "penny" isn't "declined"! Yes, I too use credit cards & debit cards etc., but I am never surprised that such an insecure & fragile system for business and money matters breaks down. You always want to be be prepared!

Remember as a customer it's your responsibility to pay, just because you don't have cash on you isn't the fault of the business; you still have to pay.

Was at Staples and Sobeys, and Visa was down at both places. Sobeys told me they had been out since around 3 pm - I was there around 5;15
