Anne of Green Gables Chocolates of P.E.I. has received glowing reviews in February’s issue of Canadian Living Magazine’s Canada’s Best Chocolate article.

The magazine spotlighted six chocolatiers across Canada, including Purdy’s in Vancouver, Sweet Lollapalooza in Edmonton, Constance Popp in Winnipeg, Rheo Thompson in Stratford, ON., Newfoundland Chocolate Co. in St.John’s and Anne of Green Gables in Charlotetown.

Natasha McCarthy, general manager for Anne of Green Gables Chocolates, says she is thrilled at the news.

The magazine’s citation for Anne of Green Gabldes chocolates states: “Drawing inspiration from P.E.I.’s most beloved fictional character, Anne of Green Gables Chocolates sells boxes of specialty chocolates, including Chocolate Sweeties (a delectable old-fashioned brown sugar fudge enrobed in milk chocolate), Anne’s Chocolate Caramels, Bosom Buddies and Marilla’s Truffles. (Anne fans will appreciate the references!) In addition to the specialty chocolates, Cow Chips fresh P.E.I. potato chips covered in rich milk chocolate are a must-try.”

“We work hard to offer a quality product made with premium ingredients by hand so it’s wonderful to know so many people are enjoying our chocolates and are impressed that so many of the magazine’s readers nationwide would have voted for us. It’s a true honor,” says McCarthy.

Anne of Green Gables Chocolates has been in business since 1999, originally having its kitchen at Avonlea Village in Cavendish. In 2012 it moved to a new manufacturing facility beside the COWS Creamery on the North River causeway with a new store added to the front complete with a viewing area of production.

The facility was built to accommodate the company’s growth in recent years and enable future growth. The organization currently has another small manufacturing facility that makes their COW Chips which are fresh potato chips smothered in rich milk chocolate.

The public can watch them being made inside the Queen Street retail store in Charlottetown, as well as two other retail locations at the Cavendish Boardwalk and Avonlea Village, said McCarthy.

Customers can also enjoy their chocolates in Borden at the COWS retail store.

Canadian Living boasts that it is the ultimate food and women’s lifestyle resource magazine. The popular magazine ranked number four in the first half of 2012 at a circulation of 511,814.

Actually, I would rather my tax money go to schools, and hospitals and the like. There are plenty of financial institutions that are there for business, especially "successful" ones. Or private investors for that matter. Out tax revenue should not be a personal piggy bank for the well connected.

Just curious... would you rather your tax dollars go to a company that employs over one hundred people every year, supports other Island companies by buying local products to use, and supports their community, or a fish plant or hotel that goes bankrupt or closes? I applaud Anne of Green Gables Chocolates and congratulate them on this recent honor. It is great to see an Island company like COWS and AGGC doing so well. I think people should be aware that in order to promote our Island and its products the government should be making SMART investments like this more often.
