Local bus riders will experience no disruption in service when a new company takes over.
Officials with the new group, Maritime Bus, say they are ready for the Dec. 1 takeover of inter-provincial routes in the Maritime provinces.
“I know we have made the right decision to launch Maritime Bus Dec. 1," company president Mike Cassidy said. "Maritimers want a bus system and we are trying our best to make the changes they are suggesting."
Prince Edward Island users will have a morning and an extra afternoon run with direct access to Halifax and Moncton.
In addition there will be an evening bus out of Halifax and an early bus out of Moncton.
Cassidy said there will be five buses leaving Moncton-Halifax and Halifax-Moncton daily compared to the three that are in the existing schedule.
Customers can travel Halifax to Saint John with seamless connections and can return in the same manner.
Other areas serviced include: Cape Breton, Miramichi, N.B., Wolfville, N.S., Fredericton, N.B., Moncton, Antigonish N.S. and Truro, N.S.
Maritime Bus is working with VIA Rail, regional airports and municipal transit to provide connecting schedules.
In a statement issued this week, Cassidy said Maritime Bus is looking for a downtown Fredericton terminal, as well as positive changes in other cities to provide easier access.
Maritime Bus also intends to provide curbside pickup up and drop off service to universities and colleges where municipalities will grant approval.
“More times, more buses ... our Courier Express customers have more options to ship parcels/freight ... ship it with Maritime Bus... we say ‘blink and it will be there,” said Cassidy.
