A few events for PEI this month:
First Event Tomorrow May 2.
Second the annual Mothers Day tea. being held at the Charlottetown Rodd Hotel on Saturday 8 May.
End of the Month: A Charity run in aid of the Fight against Prostate Cancer. Veterans of the Cav will be hosting and leading the run.
This motorcycle ride for dad is now in their 10th Year. Here is a brief history of the cause:
The Motorcycle Ride for Dad began in Ottawa in 2000. Garry Janz, along with the support of the Ottawa Police Association, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation and a handful of volunteers, organized that first Ride.
Since then, the Ride has been raising money for prostate cancer research and education. Men, women and children rally each year to support the Ride in staggering numbers. Our event gets even more exciting as new Ride for Dad Chapters continue to join the fight against prostate cancer in other Canadian cities.
The Ride is an event whose time has arrived.
Boomers are buying motorcycles in unprecedented numbers. More men then ever are being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Public figures and celebrities are admitting they are being treated for prostate cancer. Despite this, little is being done to help this cause in a way which catches public attention like the Motorcycle Ride for Dad! Support for prostate cancer research has become the New Frontier!e Motorcycle Ride for Dad began in Ottawa in 2000. Garry Janz, along with the support of the Ottawa Police Association, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation and a handful of volunteers, organized that first Ride.
This is an excerpt from my e mail from Gabby.:
We really hope to raise money for the research. One thing to point out is all the money raised here on the island actually stays on the island for the prostate cancer research. Perhaps if you don't mind.. you can always give out my name and email for those who wish to email me and make a sponsorship, pledge or even give away some door prizes for the event. Email to use would be this one .. chicksor@live.com and my full name is Gabrielle Ouellet. The PEI Ride for Dad official website is http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/pei/about-us
Three events so far this month to show support for our troops and our invisible army: invisiblearmycanada.ca
Canadians who care about Canadians>
Some little known Info: Tim Hortons in Kandar paper coffee cups have camouflaged colouring and pattern, also they do hold the roll up the rim contest in Kandahar with prizes like a Kandahar Tim Hortons Hat.
I just watched a clip from Kandahar on the cbc. The Burger King, Subway and Pizza Hut operations will be shut down. A couple of different reasons were given
1- They need the space for additional troops accomodation
2- It gives the incorrect impression of life that they wish to bring to Afghanistan.Local workers pass by daily.
3- Jealousy between the troops outside and inside the wire( I think this is a very poor excuse) soldiers accept where they work and when coming in to base for a few hours rest, shower etc I am sure they visit the establishments.
Whichever is the truth I am sure that these rest spots will be sorely missed by all NATO Troops.
Cpl. Stanly Pilon, a 32-year-old vehicle maintenance worker from Petawawa, Ont., chows down on one of the last Subway sandwiches on offer at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan on April 28, 2010. U.S. General Stanley McChrystal, the top NATO commander in Afghanistan, has ordered that the Subway, Pizza Hut and Burger King be shut down as of Saturday in order to keep troops focused on the war.
