Princess Anne spent her final day in St. John's on Sunday with soldiers who had recently returned from Afghanistan.
The Queen's daughter is the honorary colonel-in-chief of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, which invited her to participate in several ceremonies, including the presentation on Saturday of the historic regiment's new colours.
On Sunday, the princess attended a service in Bowring Park. Flanked by Lt.-Gov. John Crosbie and Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams, Anne placed a wreath at a memorial to soldiers who died in the First World War.
Many of them served in Afghanistan, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Croatia, Bosnia a lot of hard, difficult places. To have her here, and recognize them, helps put thing in perspective for them.
