Repatriation for Brave canadians, a sad time for the Families

Four Reservists and a Journalist are now on their sad journey to Canada. As the flag draped caskets were reverently marched on board. Over a thousand Canadians and other allies paid their respects heads bowed and tears in their faces and sadness in their hearts.

The reservist are an integral part of Canada's military familes. These soldier civilians choose to serve and they also suffer the horrors of combat as do their Regular force brothers. The young Journalist volunteered a while ago and was on her first tour of duty.

The bodies of four Canadian soldiers and a journalist killed in Afghanistan are on their way home.

Thousands of soldiers turned out in bright winter sunshine Friday at Kandahar Airfield to bid farewell to the five, killed Wednesday when the vehicle they were travelling in struck an improvised explosive device in the city of Kandahar.

To the mournful strains of a piper, the five were slowly carried to a transport plane for the long flight to Canada.

The casket of Calgary Herald journalist Michelle Lang, 34, was carried ahead of those of the soldiers: Sgt. George Miok, 28, and Cpl. Zachery McCormack, 21, both of Edmonton; Sgt. Kirk Taylor, 28, of Yarmouth, N.S.; and Pte. Garrett Chidley, 21, of Cambridge, Ont.

All of the soldiers were members of the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Some of the Cap Badges of the fallen soldiers and the Calgary Herald Logo of our Journalist.

May they rest in peace.

So just days into the New Year The Highway of Heroes will carry this convoy of our Brave Canadians to Toronto then onto their families care. May the Lord make the families strong throughout this sadness in their lives. Knowing that these lives were not in vain.

Remember Everyone Deployed

Today the latest soldiers and a journalist will arrive in Trenton. I sadly will be along the Highway of Heroes to pay my respects, and to show the families and Loved ones that Canadians do care and that they are proud of our military.May they be blessed in this time of deep sadness and grief. And find the inner strength to carry on. Farewell my comrades and young Lady.
