The attacks on Peter MacKay and other ministers regarding the Afghan Detainees is in my opinion most certainly a waste of time. Our troops are Ethical Proud Professionals. Minister MacKay is an honourable minister in a very difficult post.. Iggy and taliban Jack are certainly not showing support and trust in our soldiers. If we did not turn over POW's to the host country we would then have our own Guantanimo problem. The taliban insurgents show nokindness nor mercy to women, children or indeed the armies of the NATO Coalition. Torture, beatings or simply rough treatment happen in all third world countries. Our professional officers from Corrections Canada advise and demonstrate care of prisoners. Political, Criminal and Youth. However if beatings do take place I am 100% positive that Canadians are not involved we are simply not a barbaric culture.
So to our members of the Loyal opposition get of your rears and assist our troops with honour and honesty. Do not smear them nor the ministers. Our soldiers, sailors and airmen are in very dangerous territory and do not need to hear this drivelon the news.
On a much nicer note:
Support growing for memorial wall recognizing Canadian Forces war dead City of Hamilton spearheading move to donate funds to Quinte West Posted By Ernst Kuglin - The Trentonian Posted 1 day ago
Hamilton city council has started a nation-wide campaign to offer Quinte West financial help, for its support during repatriation ceremonies at CFB Trenton.
It's a political move that coincides with a plan to construct a memorial wall in Trenton ward recognizing the supreme sacrifices made by 133 Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. The wall would contain the names of all 133 Canadian Forces soldiers who've died in the war-torn country.
Monday Quinte West city council officially threw political support behind the construction of a memorial wall in Quinte West.
The idea of building a memorial was fronted two weeks earlier by Trenton resident and former provincial Liberal cabinet minister Hugh O'Neil.
He wants the wall constructed either in Trenton ward, or at a location on the base where the public would have access.
Two weeks later offers have poured in to get the project started including one from Campbell Monument Co. Ltd. to donate the granite and discount the design.
Monday, city council approved a resolution presented by Coun. Paul Kyte to form an ad hoc committee to oversee the development of the project. The resolution calls for the committee to be established no later than Feb. 1, 2010.
We've been searching for away to recognize those sacrifices made by the Canadian Forces,' said Kyte. This is an opportunity for the city to get the job done. I feel residents are prepared to support the project.'
Broad support for Quinte West's participation in repatriation ceremonies at CFB Trenton hasn't gone unnoticed in other areas of the province.
Hamilton city council is now calling on municipalities across the country to offer financial support to the city.
Each repat ceremony draws hundreds of people from around the Quinte region and across the province.

In November Hamilton residents Jim and Charlene Chambers asked Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger to spearhead a campaign calling for municipalities nationwide to donate $1 to Trenton.
It's a 'thank you' for Trenton's part in the repatriation of our fallen soldiers,' said Jim Chambers.
No one anticipated that when we started our involvement in conflicts around the world this small city and its citizens would have to take on this solemn responsibility so many times.'
While it's actually the military that conducts the ceremony, the city does close down the municipal section of the Hwy. of Heroes during repatriation ceremonies.
We can show our support with this small gesture,' said Chambers. The monies raised could be utilized as the community sees fit.'
Quinte West mayor John Williams, said any monies donated should go to the construction of a memorial wall.
It's a great opportunity and we want to thank Hamilton for its support,' said Williams.
The efforts of these Canadians to raise funds, assistance and to carry it through makes me feel proud to be a Canadian. Perhaps even the Maritime provinces will donate some funds for such a well earned National Memorial for our fallen.
Tomorrow is RED FRIDAY lets show our support for all those deployed.
